MY GREAT INspirations

My love for tradition opened up a beautiful quest to find authentic teachers, ones whom I could have in my life for long term. Guided and taught by each of these people below has given me a multidimensional practise and particular set of skills of which I am honoured to be able to share from a place of practise and experience.

Bex Tyrer

About Bex:

Scotland born and raised, with an Oxford graduate degree, MPhil in Development studies, Bex Tyrer has been Asia-based for the past thirteen years, where she lives her passion for Yoga and yoga activism.  Primarily based at the Yoga barn, in Ubud Bali, Bex has had the opportunity to teach thousands of practitioners from all over the world, and to share her experience with literally hundreds of teacher trainees. This intensive exposure to so many different practitioners and perspectives of yoga has been one of her main teachers.

Bex teaches a wide range of contemporary styles including hatha, vinyasa flow, yin, restorative, power and acroyoga. Yet at the core of it all, her true gift is to simply share her personal and intimate relationship with yoga, whilst helping to remind people that Yoga cannot be simplified into a set of postural cues or alignment.

My story with Bex:

I had the privilege of doing a 1-1 apprenticeship with Bex in Bali which I was ecstatic about. Covering the wide range of topics that is Yoga, from hatha to history to philosophy to womb & cycle awareness, learning the importance of remaining humble, true and knowing “the why to the how” yoga is taught, will always be the key take-homes from my time in Bali.

Bex’s technique in teaching blew my life open to the exploration of the word Yoga, comprehending what it actually entails. She has helped me grow and learn how to remain accountable for my path.

Angela Farmer

Who am I
Whispered the wind
As it blew through my hair

Who am I
Sang the sea
As a wave like a snake
Curled over the beach

This is I
Croaked the rock
But I’ll be gone tomorrow

And the sun grew hotter
As I tumbled through my breath
and fell
into darkness, into nothing…
into space
Is this who I am?

A new breath began.

For me Yoga is a journey each day
down into my underworld…
Not knowing
What I shall find…

It is a “kind of death”
to meet those places in my body
that still feel pain
that still hold fear
from long forgotten times…

Then with quiet and gentle acceptance of these
little pasts of me, the sad or hidden
the lonely and ugly parts

seeds of release are planted
and the outcome is a gift
that inspired my teaching,
enriches my life

I feel such joy when I see a student
finding courage to enter his or her own
inner underworld in their own unique
way. They discover their creativity in breath
and movement as need places unravel
and the power and beauty that this brings
to them.

In this process the terms “teacher” and
“student” dissolve and we enter an
awareness of
innocence and gratitude

Angela Farmer

My story with Angela:

Angela Farmer came to me at a time in my life when I felt broken. Little did I know that by day 2 she would be holding me as I wept into her arms, feeling the immense grief that was held in my heart. Angela’s embodiment of a Yoga teacher is one that gives me great faith. Her lessons in ‘unwinding’ the female form will stay with me throughout my life, trusting that my body knows the score. Angela taught me the importance of the deep feminine, and that of listening: Listening to what feels good in my body, and removing the acts that do not.

Asi Rua

My story with Asi:

My experiences with Asi are difficult to put into words but here I will aim to do this amazing being justice.  I first connected with Asi during a Hapé ceremony around five years ago where she was holding space with Hukena Yawanawa. They were a very strong, all female Shamanic team with deeply respectful connections to both the medicine, and for the people they were holding. I was very comforted to be exploring plant medicines with Asi who had been in deep study in the village of Mutum, doing her Muca diet with Tata who was considered one of the greatest and most knowledgeable men in the indigenous community of The Yawanawa who live in Acre Brazil, home to ‘la foresta’. Asi has spent time on dietas with the Huni Kuin as well as having a grounded connection to the Santa Dame tradition.

The feeling I received from Asi was one of past life, a deep knowing, a deep respect. In many ways I felt nervous around such strong wise energy, but the more time I spent with her, she would show her vulnerabilities- and this was a huge teaching for me. As well as holding ceremonial space in service with Uni, Ayahuasca- she showed me what it is to be human, to be alive in this physical world and the importance of not bypassing this living experience. The importance of not putting people, teachers, Shamans on pedestals to denote your own power and divinity as a human being. Asi and I have dreams to hold retreats together with her beautiful wife who is also a dear friend of mine.

The vision is to hold thoughtfully orchestrated expansive, grounding ceremonies to travel with spirit, as well as coming back down to Earth and connecting with the embodied practises of Yoga and meditation, to help integrate peoples’ experiences. Creating unity between two traditions and raising collective consciousness in a compassionate and real way.

HUKENA Yawanawa

My story with Hukena

I have had the deep honour of studying traditional amazonian plant medicines with Hukena, the daughter of Hushahu, the first female Pajé of the Yawanawa people.

Hukena showed me what it meant to truly be in service. I spent my first Ayahuasca ceremony in a peaceful child’s pose with gentle tears streaming down my face in pure amazement of the humility that she held.

The devotion, the work, the songs, the space, the everything - was an example of humbleness in its purity. Hukena’s humility was incredibly inspiring.

Peter McCraw & The Emotion Code

For the last year I have had the absolute privilege to be able to explore the amazing modality known as The Emotion (and body) Code with a phenomenal practitioner- Peter McCraw. In my history of teachers I very rarely connect with men and so it was like breathing in new air when I started working with Peter. Grounded, kind, intelligent and patient beyond belief he is a man I am very honoured to have in my life. After experiencing severe 10/10 pain nerve damage this year down my whole left leg (sciatica) my father guided me towards working with Peter to explore different avenues of healing to do with my back injury. Although I did initially turn to this practise from a place of desperation for my back, I received so, so much more liberation for the entire system.

Trapped emotions = Trauma.

I found many similarities between The Emotion Code and IQM which was inspirational. After working every week with Peter for 4 hours per session, he began to coach me on what his version of The Emotion Code is, The McCraw Method. What we found and explored together was fascinating and I love to add elements of this into my sessions with clients coming for IQM. It’s with great humility that I can offer you this experience with my own special twist.
